Gypsy Rose Blanchard went through a major hair transformation since her prison release on Dec 28.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard, 32, has started the year with a fresh and new look. She was released from prison on Dec 28, after being in jail for 7 years. She pleaded guilty in 2016 for second-degree murder of her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard.
The New Look
Her new hair transformation involved cutting off a major chunk of her locks to embrace herself and the new beginnings on Sunday and also to inform her 10 million followers on the importance of hair donation in the TikTok video.
She considered even a new hairstyle to be worth a reinvention of oneself as she accepted her new self in her Instagram post on Jan 27. “To All the girls, boys, and non-binary…Enjoy Life,” She posted on Instagram along with telling everyone to express themselves in any way that makes them happy.
She offered some words of wisdom to her followers by telling them to show their beauty and not hide it because life is too short. She posted two photos: her selfie with the shoulder-length waves and another with hair that was the same as before.
The Decision
The decision was made to support the people going through hair loss due to cancer.
She said she cut her hair about eight inches to support charity and donate her hair to make wigs for cancer patients.
In her 28 Jan Instagram video, she also mentioned The Great Cut charity, which she decided to donate her hair to. The charity is one of the several organizations that make wigs for kids who lost their hair due to medical issues.
A Personal Connection
The decision to donate her hair to the charity held great meaning to her as she was a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy. It is a rare psychological disorder, where the caretaker seeks medical help for deliberately made-up symptoms of a child they cater to.
Gypsy’s mother was accused of lying by deliberately making her act sick throughout her childhood and gaining medical attention for either exaggerated or nonexistent symptoms which made her undergo unnecessary treatments.
At one point, it went so far that Dee Dee gave Gypsy a fake cancer diagnosis and shaved her head, which was included in the Hulu series The Act.
Gypsy wrote, “For me, not having hair was really hard on my self-esteem.” In a way, she empathized with the people dealing with hair loss and wanted to help them by donating her hair as she felt beautiful when she wore a wig herself.
She ended the video by asking her 10 million followers to consider donating their hair took her hair out of a ponytail and showed off her new look with excitement.
A New Start
Apart from chopping her hair off, she has also married Ryan Anderson, to start a new chapter in her life after marrying him in a prison ceremony in June 2022.
She also announced the arrival of their eight-week-old puppy into their lives as a new member of the family as they are not ready to have a baby yet. Gypsy has decided to start afresh after years of struggles and sharing her story with the world.
