If you’ve seen the headlines or TikToks claiming a new stimulus check is hitting bank accounts this June, you’re not alone. Social media is lighting up with questions like “Is a fourth check coming?” or “Will I get another $1,400?” But before you start refreshing your IRS refund tracker, here’s the truth: no fourth federal stimulus check has been approved for June 2025—and no official plans have been announced to change that.
Yet the chatter hasn’t come out of nowhere. With inflation still high, housing costs squeezing families, and job uncertainty in some sectors, the desire for another round of relief is real. Many Americans are feeling the pinch, and talk of stimulus checks brings a sense of hope.
But hope doesn’t equal policy.
Right now, Congress has not passed any legislation for a new stimulus payment, and the IRS has not scheduled any federal direct deposits or checks for this month. That means, as of now, no national stimulus payment is on the way in June. The IRS has also clarified that there are no leftovers from past stimulus rounds available—the final deadline to claim any uncollected payments from the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit passed on April 15, 2025. If you missed it, unfortunately, that money is no longer available.
So what’s fueling all the buzz?
Much of it is coming from political proposals and state-level programs. A few members of Congress have floated ideas for a fourth check—some suggesting $600, others calling for another $1,400 to help Americans keep up with rising costs. There’s even talk of $2,000 monthly “basic income” payments in certain progressive circles. But none of these ideas have advanced past the discussion phase. No bills have been passed, and without that, nothing will move forward.
That said, while Washington may be quiet, some states are stepping up with their own versions of economic relief:
-
New York is issuing up to $400 in inflation assistance for qualifying households.
-
California and Colorado are providing rebates between $725 and $800, depending on income and family size.
-
New Mexico is gearing up to send out $500 to $1,000 payments as early as late June or July.
-
Georgia is releasing up to $500 per household in a cost-of-living rebate, also this summer.
If you live in one of these states, you could be eligible for relief, but it’s not a federal check—it’s from your state government. And eligibility varies, so be sure to check with your state’s Department of Revenue or local treasury office.
Another source of confusion is the so-called “DOGE Dividend”, a proposal from President Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency. It promises that $5,000 checks could go out to households as a reward for cutting waste in federal programs. Sounds great, right? But don’t hold your breath—no actual payments have been authorized, and savings so far fall far short of what’s needed to fund the idea. Experts say, at best, it might be possible in late 2026, if ever.
The bottom line?
There’s no fourth federal stimulus check coming this June, no matter what the rumors say. If Congress takes action later this year, that could change—but for now, your best bet is to look into state programs and ignore any scammy texts or emails promising fast cash.
