Canada Upcoming GSTHST Credit Dates - Payment Amounts

As July inches closer and closer, Canadians should prepare to receive a handful of government benefits and credits, including the GST/HST credit. With the rising cost of living, it’s no surprise residents, particularly low-income families, are looking for ways to supplement inflation in Canada — whether it be taking on more hours at work, an additional job, or seeking financial aid from federal programs.

The GST/HST credit is a non-taxable amount paid four times a year to individuals and families with low and “modest” incomes. Here’s a chart(opens in a new tab) from the CRA on income levels eligible for this benefit. The CRA said its aim is to help offset the goods and services tax and harmonized sales tax that they pay. In the month before the quarterly payments, individuals must be 19 years old and older.

Additionally, eligibility depends on how much you make and your personal circumstances. For example, a single person with no children only qualifies for the credit if their net income is $50,000 or less.

The actual amount a person or family receives depends on factors including salary, the number and ages of children, and custody arrangements. Payments received between July 2024 and June 2025 will be based on what you made in the 2023 tax year.

The GST/HST credit is a quarterly payment for individuals and families with low to modest incomes, meant to help offset the goods and services tax/harmonized sales tax (GST/HST) they pay.

New residents must have lived in Canada prior to the credit payout and at the beginning of the month. This month means new residents need to have lived in Canada beginning in March and continuing through to the beginning.

Payment Amounts

The amount of GST/HST credit an individual or family can receive varies based on several factors:

  • Single individuals can receive up to $519 annually.
  • Married couples or common-law partners can receive up to $680 annually.
  • For each child under the age of 19, families can receive an additional $179.

The total amount received depends on the adjusted family net income reported on their tax return for the base year (2023) and whether they have children
