Here Are 3 Steps You Need to Increase Employee Engagement

Today’s guest post is from Annabelle Rigby. She discusses 3 simple and easy-to-implement steps to increase the engagement of your workforce.

Employee engagement is essential to any successful business, allowing for a better exchange between employees and supervisors. Studies show that employees who feel engaged are more productive and satisfied with their jobs.

Increase Employee Engagement

Here are 3 steps you can take in your company to help keep employees motivated, and improve the efficiency and success of your business.

1. Let Them Know They Have a Voice

Regardless of whether it’s in the workplace, at home, or even in the grocery store, everyone wants to feel like they have a voice and that their opinions are valued by others. You can foster employee engagement by creating an environment within your business that encourages your employees to speak up and let you know what they think.

Listening to their concerns about everything from the work environment, to certain procedures and policies, and even customer feedback will allow you to paint a better picture of your business, and determine what works and what doesn’t. It will also affirm to your employees that they are valued members of the team and that they are capable of positively impacting their workplace.

It’s likely you’ll gain inspiration and receive some helpful advice if you encourage them to share their opinions and voice their concerns.

2. Create a Positive Environment

There’s a lot to be said for the environment in any given workplace, and the best part is, the type of environment that can be found in your business is entirely in your control. Your actions and policies set the tone for the office—you can choose to create an environment where employees feel valued, appreciated, and understood, or one where employees are left feeling unappreciated and angry.

It’s a great idea to hold regular company events to thank your employees and recognize their hard work and accomplishments. Put rewards programs in place where employees can work together toward a common goal with the promise of a big payoff at the end. Even smiling and giving positive feedback in person to your employees on a daily basis helps in a big way.

Keep in mind that the business culture will have a lot to do with the type of people you hire. Make sure that you’re hiring people who have a work ethic that fits with the goals you’re hoping to achieve within your company, and that their values align with your business values.

3. Gamification Is Always a Good Idea

To keep employees motivated to do their job and create a fun environment, consider implementing gamification in the workplace. Through gamification, you can take even the most tedious or mundane tasks in the office and turn them into a competition that will encourage employees to work harder and enjoy themselves more in the process.

Creating a fun and engaging environment for your employees will help them to feel more comfortable, get to know other employees better, and result in more work completed by happy employees.

It’s up to you to start creating a positive work environment for your employees so they can fulfill their potential for productivity and creativity.

Implement these 3 steps today to see an immediate boost in employee engagement.

  1. I could not agree more. It should start in hiring, you have to look beyond an applicant’s potential, but instead find if your applicant best fit in your organization, best fit to the people he/she will work with every day. Nothing is more motivating than having a good and positive workplace, and with added fun too. I like the idea of gamification. We have article in Tenfold that talk about success stories in gamification,

  2. Hmmmmm….no wonder I am putting out feelers for new jobs and going out on interviews! Unfortunately, I have not seen any of these practices in place for my company’s employees! Anytime I have made suggestions, I have not received any positive replies – just vague promises that something will be done about the problem. Whenever a meeting has been held to discuss new procedures, I (and my fellow supervisor at our other satellite location) am the last to find out about them, – after the fact. As for team-building, this company acts like they have never heard of the concept!
